Jillayne Hunter-Dunbar has been a dedicated yoga practitioner for over 20 years. A few years into her practice, she found her teacher, Bekir Algan, PhD. Jillayne found Bekir’s approach to yoga to be distinctly unique, systematic, seasonal, structural, holistic and precise. He intentionally broke down poses and sections of the body to such a macro degree he would often joke, “Is this yoga?” She completed Bekir’s teacher-training, Advanced Asana YTT, Kundalini YTT and an Ayurvedic Counselor program. Jillayne is currently in her second year of Yoga Therapy Training.

Jillayne’s interests have always circulated around the body - our vessel, our vehicle, our home. By what means and methods are we able to exist in harmony with, and be assisted by our own body? As her studies deepened in yogic philosophy, ayurveda and anatomy and physiology, she came to realize it is not only the health of our physical body, but of our mental, emotional, pranic and subconscious bodies, that allow for us to be at ease and navigate life with grace. Her teaching style demonstrates an understanding for where her students currently are in their practice while encouraging the notion that the body is often more intelligent than the mind. Jillayne continues to study independently and with senior teachers such as Jerry Balderas, Gabriella Giubilaro and Ramanand Patel. She also studies the works of BKS Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar and Dr. Vasant Lad. Jillayne is currently vested in the South Bay of Los Angeles, California.
