An unobstructed pocket of time.
The gift of presence.
A commitment to the self.

Witness Movement Meditation is a time to be seen, to see oneself and to simply be. Shockingly simple at times and completely riling at others. When the known and practiced concept of how to be, what to do, what to say or how to look is placed on pause, what happens? What wants to happen? What inside of us is asking for space?

Witnessing is not a novel concept. In the Upanishads, an ancient Vedic text, the three selves are referenced frequently; the physical self, the mental self and the observing self, seer or witnessing self. The witnessing self must learn to separate itself from the mind and body so it may obtain a greater perspective, unattached to aversions, attachments, desires, fears, afflictions and emotions. The witnessing self becomes a sanctuary for equanimity and an opportunity to experience what the Upanishads refer to as atman, or the true self.

Jillayne is a supporting witness as the mover engages in the practice. The name mover is not to be confused with the expectation of moving. Breath, at times, can be movement enough. When our habituated patterns of thought and expression fade, space is presented. Space to feel, question, understand, explore… the complexity and clarity of who we are. Anything and everything is welcome (aside from harm to oneself or another). Bravery required, curiosity favored. Nothing too dark, nothing too light. Witnessing is not something we do but something we allow to happen.
